What I help with

Report writing & insight

Turn research reports into business recommendations

You paid for the research. It's 80 slides, and nobody has changed anything because of it. I read the reports, answer the business question, and turn it into a short story people can decide on.

Sound familiar?

  • "How do I turn research findings into recommendations?"
  • "Who can edit our market research report?"
  • "Our insight isn't landing with leadership. Why?"
  • "How do I tell a story with data?"

What it is, in plain English

Insight storytelling means starting with the decision someone has to make, then pulling out only the findings that help them make it. I work with findings you already have, from your own research or an agency's. I don't run fieldwork or do the data science.

Job ads call this: Research report writer / insight storyteller / data storyteller.

Why me

I've spent 20 years reading complex research and data at Kantar, Toluna and YouGov, and simplifying it so leadership could make product and marketing decisions. I've reviewed, edited and added to research reports, and trained researchers for the Market Research Society.

    Report writing & editing

For research agencies and insight teams: writing, editing and shaping longer reports so the findings answer the business question. Priced on inputs, length and rounds of changes.

    Smaller first step: So What?

Questions people ask

What do I need to send you?
The reports or findings, and the decision you need to make. So What? (£1,250) covers up to 5 reports, 100 pages in total, and up to 3 business questions.
Do you work with research agencies?
Yes. I help agencies and insight teams write, edit and shape reports so the findings answer the client's question. Longer reports are priced on the inputs, the length and the rounds of changes.
Will you analyse our raw data?
No. I work with findings that already exist. No raw-data cleaning, new statistics or dashboards.
Can you write thought leadership for a research business?
Yes. Words That Work (£350 an article) is a good fit for research-industry articles.
